Amanifestoagainsttheconceptsofgrowthanddebt,andacallforareinvestmentinthesocialbody.TheUprisingisanAutonomistmanifestofortoday’sprecarioustimes,andarallyingcryinthefaceofthecatastrophicandirreversiblecrisisthatneoliberalismandthefinancialspherehaveestablishedovertheglobe.Inhisnewestbook,Franco“Bifo“Berardiarguesthatthenotionofeconomicrecoveryiscompletemythology.Thecomingyearswillinevitablyseenewsurgesofprotestandviolence,buttheoldmodelsofresistancenolongerapply.Societycaneitherstickwiththeprescriptionsand“rescues“thattheeconomicandfinancialsectorshavedemandedattheexpenseofsocialhappiness,culture,andthepublicgood;oritcanformulateanalternative.ForBerardi,thisalternativeliesinunderstandingthecurrentcrisisassomethingmorefundamentalthananeconomiccrisis:itisacrisisofthesocialimagination,anddemandsanewlanguagebywhichtoaddressit.Thisisamanifestoagainsttheideaofgrowth,andagainsttheconceptofdebt,thefinancialsector’stwoprimarylinguisticmeansofmanipulatingsociety.Itisacallforexhaustion,andforresistancetothecultofenergyonwhichtoday’seconomicfree-floatingmarketdepends.Tothisend,Berardiintroducesanunexpectedlinguisticpoliticalweapon--poetry:poetryastheinsolvencyoflanguage,asthesensuousbirthofmeaninganddesire,asthatwhichcannotbereducedtoinformationandexchangedlikecurrency.Iftheprotestsnowstirringabouttheworldaretotakeshapeanddirection,thentherevolutionwillbeneitherpeacefulnorviolent--itwillbelinguistic,orwillnotbeatall.
